All about Wexford Massage Therapy

Writer: Leanne HarpurLeanne Harpur

Hi! I'm Leanne Harpur, owner of Wexford Massage Therapy. After a car accident in 2000, I became a true advocate for massage as medical treatment. The car accident caused me to have neck and lower back pain which resolved in a few weeks with regular physio treatments. However, I was left with a burning sensation in the back of my arm that persisted for months. I had x-rays, nerve conduction test, chiropractic and physio treatments. Finally I went to a massage therapist I worked with, and in 3 massage sessions the burning pain was gone. Massage can't fix all pain but is very effective in treating muscle related pain patterns.

At Wexford Massage Therapy I specialize in treating neck, shoulder and back pain. I combine all my experience and therapies to create a unique treatment based on your pain area. Whether your pain is caused from stress/anxiety, computer work at the kitchen table, driving, sleeping in an awkward position, too much gardening or an injury, massage therapy can almost always help. After a consultation, if I feel I can't help your condition, I will help point you in the right direction to someone who can.

I use Synergy hot stones on 98% of my clients (some health conditions prevent the use of hot stones). These Synergy stones are of varying sizes, shapes and weights and are used to "melt" the top layer of tissue to allow me to reach deeper tissue with my hands and really release muscle tension and spasm. Plus the heat just feels amazing! This also helps keep soreness down during and after treatment. I love it when clients come out of the treatment room saying they can move their head again, or the pain is gone, or they feel lighter!

A little bit about me. I was born and raised in Canada and have lived in Ireland since 2003. Through my teens and twenties I was a very competitive athlete in Rowing, Cross Country Skiing, Running and Baseball. During my competitive years I had several injuries which led to my interest, and subsequent study, of Sports Medicine (BSc Sports Medicine, Mercyhurst University, Erie, Pennsylvania, USA, 1994) I completed a Massage Therapy Diploma at The Austin School of Massage Therapy, Austin, Texas, USA in 2000. Over the years I have worked in several therapeutic settings including Professional Ice Hockey, Collegiate, Chiropractic Clinic, and Physiotherapy clinics before deciding to venture out on my own as a Massage Therapist. When I'm not working I can be found down at the pitch watching my 2 sons play hurling and football, or walking the amazing beaches and forests of Co. Wexford.
